Adelaine sat at the edge of a cliff, feet dangling over the water. The sun was shining, gulls were soaring, and Seamus was by her side. He'd used up the last of his supply of Floo Powder to visit her in Scarborough.

"Oi, I could sure get used ta this," he sighed, kicking back. "Why don' ye like it here?"

"I love it here," she assured him. "I'm just not fond of the company.."

"Righ', yer cousin," he nodded, squinting in the light. "Guessin' I won' be meetin' her, eh?"

"Definitely not," Adele shook her head, leaning back. "You don't want to. You're comfortable at the inn, though, aren't you?"

"Aye, it beats me home in Ireland," he smiled.

They laid back on the cool grass and stared up at the sky. Adele was back at the Armand fortress for the rest of the summer, it seemed. The thought didn't excite her in the least; Em had been driving her insane. The only bit of happiness she'd had was the owl from Seamus. His father was back home and, needless to say, he needed a break.

"So are you sure you can't come back next year?" she asked, nudging him.

"Unless me da' leaves, looks like it," he said sadly. "Oi, did you here tat? Sounded like footsteps.."

Marigold walked through the woods, her basket in her hand as she picked herbs. Robert always sent her on this "missions", to get her out of the house. She didn't mind them honestly. It gave her a chance to escape from Robert's company for an hour or two. Not that Robert was bad company. She just needed to be alone.

She was towards the edge of the woods when she saw Seamus and Adele talking at the edge of the cliff. She stepped on a twig and Seamus whipped around to face her. She smiled and ran up to them, giving each of them a big hug.

"Marigold! What're yer doing here?" Seamus asked.

"I'm traveling around with Robert before school starts back. We're staying at the inn in Scarborough," she said happily.

"That's amazing! We can have so much fun!" Seamus bubbled.

"So, what are you two doing here?" she asked.

"Adele's visiting her cousin. I decided to pay her a visit," Seamus explained.

"Who's your cousin?" Marigold asked Adele.

Adelaine couldn't have been more excited to see Marigold; the only thing that could make her day even brighter was if the rest of their group was there.

"You have no idea how awful it's been since Hogsmeade," she explained, leaning back against a boulder. "I've been so lonely."

"Oi, so 'ave I," Seamus decreed. "Reckon most of us 'ave."

"Marigold, you know my cousin, Emmanuelle," she reminded her friend. "I told you about her....the one from France? The she-devil?"

"Righ', ta one who makes yer life mis'rable, yeah?" Seamus assumed, scratching his head.

"That's the one," Adele grumbled. "So, what sort of mischief do the two of you want to get into while you're here? I'm pretty sure I know this land like the back of my hand, but adventures may await around ever corner."

"Count us in!" a familiar voice said. Adele jumped at the sound of it, then grinned as Peyton and Gavin stepped out from the shadows of the trees.

Marigold threw her arms around Gavin and Peyton, overjoyed to see her friends. She had been alone for a very long time.

"Alright, so, what adventures could we get into to?" Gavin asked. Marigold thought for a second before Peyton had a great idea.

"We could have a broom race!" he proposed.

"Too many Muggles around for that mate," a voice said, making them all jump. They turned around to see Finn and Symon sitting on top of the boulder.

"Oi! When yer two get 'ere?" Seamus asked as Marigold hugged Finn. He hugged her tightly back.

"We've been here a while. We just didn't want to interrupt the reunion," Symon explained, as him and Marigold shook hands. They were friends but not up to the hugging level yet.

"Now we just Arya and Asher and the gang's all here," Peyton said with a laugh. Marigold sighed, wishing they were here. But, they didn't have Floo Powder and no doubt they had to work today. It was sad but they would have to miss out. Unless the boys wanted to do a recon mission to go get them.

"What's in here?" Peyton said, gesturing to Marigold's basket. Oh. Robert. Right, she thought.

"Oh. They're herbs for Robert. He'll be needing these soon," she said.

"Well, let's go drop them off and get permission for Robert to let you have some fun. We don't want him upset like last time," Gavin offered.

"Yeah. And, we'll think of something to do along the way. Who knows? Trouble may drop in our lap again," Peyton said, causing the group to laugh again. They have had enough of those adventures to last them a while. So, the group started walking towards the inn, catching up and laughing and gallivanting all the way.

Adelaine grinned as everyone appeared. Nearly the whole group was there! Her breath caught in her throat, though, as she looked at Symon, then back at Seamus. I can’t believe I’m in this situation again, she thought grimly. Liking two boys at once...and one being her betrothed. She had an Arya-like thought and wanted to kick something.

How long have you been in Scarborough, Adele?” Symon asked, catching up to her as they walked. “I was actually here a couple weeks ago, I met your cousin.

I’m sure that was pleasant,” she said, almost laughing.

It was interesting, to say the least,” he shrugged, and she wondered what the story was.

I have an idea for an adventure,” Finn shouted from the back of the group, raising his hand.

Let’s have it, then,” Gavin prompted.

Is it a tour o’ Rockfort?” Seamus asked, half-sarcastically.

No. I’ve been perfecting my Bubble Head charm,” the Hufflepuff explained. “Maybe we could go for a swim?

Yes!” Peyton shouted, surprising them all. He blushed. “What? I’ve always wanted to pet a dolphin..

The group stopped by the well in the town center as they reached the inn, and waited for Marigold to do her business.

Marigold knocked on the door to Robert's room. They had separate rooms so that Robert could do his stuff and so Marigold could be even more alone. At least she had her privacy.

"One minute Anneliese," Robert told her, followed by a groan. She blushed and waited patiently outside the door. Then, Robert opened it, his hand bloodied and a knocked out man on the floor. Marigold looked at the body and then back at Robert, raising an eyebrow.

"Town drunkard. Owned the inn keep money. He paid me to get it back for him," he explained, stepping into the hallway and shutting the door behind him.

"Right. Anyway, here's your herbs. I was wondering if I could go out with my friends for a couple of hours," she asked timidly. He thought about it.

"Well, just be careful and I expect you home by five for dinner and training," he said, pressing a few galleons into her hand in case she needed it. She hugged Robert and then bounded out of the inn.

"Alright. Let's go! What're we doing?" she said happily as she came out of the inn.

"Marigold," a voice said happily. Marigold turned to face Jacob, who had joined the group while she was inside. Him and the group exchanged hand shakes and greetings. Did he follow me here? she thought.

"Jacob," she said back, although a bit in shock.

"So, let's go swimming. Come on," Peyton said, breaking up the awkwardness.

"By the way, did you learn to swim?" Gavin asked quietly. She nodded and he smiled. Then, he went to catch up with Peyton and Finn and Symon and Jacob fell back to talk to her.

"I know you don't want to talk to me, but you have to know that's it wasn't my fault what happened in Germany," he said, trying to get her to talk. She crossed her arms and he rubbed his hand through his hair. "I wish you would just forgive me. It's been hell the last month. Cedany is so annoying," he said, referring to his newly betrothed. Marigold just stayed quiet as they came to the ocean.

"Let's swim!" Gavin said excitedly, pulling Marigold into the water.

Adelaine walked ahead of Jacob and Marigold and couldn't help but overhear their conversation. What the bloody hell had happened in Germany? Marigold hadn't been the same since she'd been back, and she wouldn't talk about the trip at all. Perhaps if Adele could get her alone somehow...

"Scarborough is lovely," Gavin said, a bit surprised.

"It is," Adele nodded, gazing at the sea. "Peyton, I think I see some dolphins in the distance!"

"Where?!" he exclaimed, squinting and shading his eyes from the sun.

Seamus took his arm and pulled him out a bit further, pointing to the pod of dolphins a few yards out. Finn waded over to them and motioned for everyone to come together. He performed the Bubble Head Charm on each of them. They all looked so funny that none of them could stop giggling and pointing.

"Alright, let's do this!" Peyton shouted, though the sound was muffled.

Adele let herself sink to the sea floor, and she gasped. Thanks to the bubble of air, she could see everything the way mermaids must see it. It was incredible! An entire world just under the surface. Colors seemed brighter, and everything looked like it was moving in slow motion. Just beside her a school of tiny fish swam lazily with current.

While Marigold had learned how to swim, she was still terrified. And, she only knew the basics. So, Finn stayed behind with her as they swam through the waves. When she felt herself getting pulled around by the current, Finn would grab tightly to her hand and pull her to catch up with the group.

But, she didn't mind falling behind. It gave her a chance to look at stuff that the others didn't seem to notice. She noticed a pack of Grindylows gathered around a patch of algae, feasting on the plant. Marigold knew to avoid them, because they've been known to eat humans if they're attacked. A single Hippocampus was swimming through the water, avoiding their group. Marigold reached out her hand to touch it and it galloped away in a panic. She giggled and Finn pulled her along to catch her up.

"Dolphins!" Peyton exclaimed happily as they came up to the creatures. The dolphins weren't used to humans so they kept avoiding Peyton whenever he tried to touch one. Marigold giggled and looked around as Peyton tried in vain to get a dolphin in his grasp. She furrowed her brow and gestured to Finn, pointing to little sea mountains on the ocean floor.

"It's a mermaid village. Hopefully, we're far away enough that they won't bother us," he explained. But, knowing the lads, they wanted to see the mermaids.

"Let's go say hi!" Gavin suggested happily.

"Let's not and say we did,"Marigold said, preferring not to have a near death experience today.

"Let's take a vote," Symon proposed. Gavin, Peyton, Seamus, and Jacob wanted to go. Symon, Marigold, and Finn didn't want to go. They looked at Adele for her vote, to see if she'll tie it up or not.

Adelaine was absolutely loving this. Who knew a whole new world awaited them just under the surface? While the lads tried to wrangle in a dolphin, she looked around. Noticing something glinting on the sea floor, she swam down and approached it cautiously. It could be buried treasure, the locket of some old queen...

"EEK!" she screamed as the glittering object popped up out of the sand and swam away. Once her heart rate calmed, she realized what it was. "A flounder. Settle down, Adele."

"Oy, Adele!" Seamus called her over, his voice muffled. "We need ye ta make a decision."

"What is it?" she kicked and shot over to the group.

"That over there's a mermaid village," Gavin explained, pointing to a cluster of rocky hills covered in colorful plants and algae.

"Do we risk a painful demise and go exploring?" Symon asked, only half sarcastic.

Everyone looked at her, and she sighed. She hated these situations. With a shrug, she headed over to the mountains, and the boys whooped happily. As they reached the village, the group lined up behind a wall and peered over. Adele expected to see mermaids everywhere, swimming amongst the fish and dolphins, but...

"It's like a ghost town," she muttered. The place was totally abandoned.

"I feel like we say this a lot, but..something isn't right," Gavin said quietly.

How do we end up in these situations? Marigold thought with dread. Gavin swam over the wall and into the town. Once he wasn't kill in a matter of seconds, Peyton followed. Marigold sighed and sat on the wall, looking over the city.

"It's completely abandoned," Gavin said.

"It can't be. Mermaids just don't leave their village," Finn commented, going over to the boys. Marigold sighed and they all went into the village. They all looked around, noticing all the little details. The thing that really got to Marigold was this little doll made of seaweed. She picked it and tossed it around before laying it at on top of the wall.

"Where do you thing they went?" Jacob asked.

"The better question is, why did they leave?" Symon replied. They all looked at each other, wondering what happened to the mermaids.

"Let's take a look around. Maybe there's some clues," Gavin suggested. They all split into pairs and she ended up going to the West with Finn. Everything was normal, until....

"Oh my god," Marigold said, covering her mouth. There was a massive hole in the wall, with dead mermaids holding spears around it.

"They were attacked," Finn stated the obvious.

"But, by what?" Marigold asked, dreading the answer.

"Let's go back," Symon said suddenly. "This is too dangerous."

"What if there are others here?" Gavin asked, looking around. "We just leave them to their fate?"

"Symon's right," Jacob agreed. "Whatever took out this village...we're no match for it."

Disheartened, the group resurfaced and paddled back to shore. Adele wrung out her hair and sat on a flat boulder.

"You know," she begain, the Ravenclaw in her coming out.
"We technically should have been using the term merpeople or merfolk. Mermaid just refers to the females."

The lads booed her and shook their heads, and she laughed apologetically. As the group sunbathed for a bit, Adele noticed something in the distance. A horse grazing by a tide pool. It was beautiful in an eerie way. Gray as a storm cloud, with the oddest mane. It almost looked to be made of bullrush. In a daze, Adelaine stood and walked toward it, a smile on her face. It was harmless. The horse met her eye as she approached and she ran her hand along his nose.

"Adele, get back here," Seamus said behind her, deathly serious. He'd followed her. "Now."

"Who are you to tell me what to do?" she said snidely, shooing him away.

If she'd been in her right mind, and not so entranced, she would have noted the tone in his voice and the fear-stricken yet determined look on his face, and the wand in his hand. But she wasn't. So Adele quickly jumped on the horse's back and realized far too late what she'd done.

"No!" Seamus yelled, running to stop her.

The horse began to grow. Not only did it get larger, it got longer. She snapped out of her trance and tried desperately to dismount, but she was stuck to the beast!

"Help!" Seamus was calling to the others. "Kelpie!!"

Her lovely horse was now a giant serpent with a horse's head and legs. The coat changed into mud-colored scales. The horse turned to look at her, and it smiled. Sneered. Its teeth were razor sharp and its eyes glowed red. Adele just barely had time to think 'This is how my life is going to end,' when it slithered into the water.

Marigold had to think fast. She pulled out her wand.

"Accio broom," she said, her broom the Cosins gave her zipping to her side. It was brand new, all polished and shiny. (OOC: Picture an Air Wave Gold.) She mounted it and kicked off.

"Marigold!" Jacob said as she sped off over the water, following the Kelpie. But, soon, Symon was in tow, having the same idea as her. The Kelpie was smart. It knew that if it took Adele too far into the water, the pressure would kill her. Although, Marigold wondered why he didn't want to kill her that way. Then, the idea occurred to her. He wanted more. Adele was the bait to get the rest of them over open water, its natural territory. It wanted more than one victim.

"We have to make it surface," Symon called out to her, his wand out and ready. Marigold nodded but had no idea how to do that.

"Cover me," Symon said, diving towards the water. Marigold held her breath as her skirted the water to get the Kelpie's attention. The Kelpie looked like it smiled and surfaced, hungry for more food.

"Avada Kadavara," Symon casted, although the Kelpie dodged. Marigold now knew why she had such respect for Symon. She feared him and his power.

"You're gonna kill it?!" Marigold yelled, dodging the Kelpie's razor teeth.

"Dislodge Adele and leave the rest to me," Symon said simply. Marigold knew this was a life or death situation. This wasn't the time to use childish spells. So, she nodded and flew around to the back of the Kelpie's neck, while Symon distracted it. Marigold pulled on Adele's arm, who she noticed was unconscious. She must have ran out of air when she was pulled under water, she thought, tugging on the limp Adele.

"She's stuck good," Marigold said to Symon.

"Keep trying," he said. Marigold felt the wind zip past her and now Jacob and Finn were here.

"About time boys," Marigold called out, pulling on Adele again.

"Sorry. Had to find brooms," Finn replied, shooting birds at the Kelpie. The boys were distracting the Kelpie and Adele wasn't any closer to being rescued. So, Marigold had to resort to drastic measures.

"I'm sorry. Diffindo!" she apologized before casting the spell right below where Adele was situtated. The Kelpie roared in pain as a deep gorge was embedded in it's skin. Stick to what you're good at, she thought. Blood leaked from the wound and Marigold wiggled Adele back and forth to loosen the piece of muscle she was on. Finally, she pulled Adele free, even though part of the Kelpie skin was still attached to her. The Kelpie looked at her and roared.

"Go Marigold! GO!" Symon yelled. Jacob adjusted Adele's body on Marigold's broom and she took off back towards the shore, where the other lads were waiting. The Kelpie attempted to follow her but the boys distracted it. Did I just kill it?she thought as she flew with Adele. She landed on the shore and passed her broom to Gavin who flew off to help. Marigold laid Adele down and took her pulse. She didn't have one. Marigold begun pressing on Adele's chest to expel the water from her lungs and to get her heart beating again. She glared at Seamus and Peyton, who were freaking out. Marigold took her pulse again.

"Scheisst!" she said, going back to pressing on her chest.

"Come on Adele!" Marigold yelled at her.

((OOC: If we were being realistic, Adele would be a goner by the time the brooms arrived lol. Also, I'm gonna pretend that little flap of kelpie skin you left on her nether-region is no longer there.))

Adele was barely conscious, but she was well aware of everything going on around her. Marigold was trying her best to revive her, and she heard loud splashing, which must have been the sea serpent leaping out of the water. She heard Seamus and Peyton next to her shouting hexes. The rest of the boys seemed to be over the ocean somehow, but she couldn't think of a way unless they called on their brooms. Finally, the kelpie's scream in the distance woke her.

"Bloody hell," she gasped, sitting up and coughing. "Get away from it!"

"They gotta kill it, Addie," Seamus said, out of breath. "Glad yer up, by ta way!"

"Crucio!" she heard Finn shout, and the kelpie writhed in pain.

The sound made Adele grimace. She fumbled around for her wand and stood, a bit wobbly.

"Langlock!" she yelled, and the serpent's tongue was glued to the roof of its mouth, stopping it from baring its teeth.

"Immobulus!" Jacob bellowed, just barely missing.

The kelpie swung its tail up out of the water and smacked Jacob to the shore, and he hit the sand with a hard thud.

"Peyton, cover me," Marigold called out to him. He nodded and Marigold ran over to Jacob, with Peyton covering her from the Kelpie. Marigold tossed Peyton the broom, who gave it to Seamus. Seamus took off and Marigold dragged Jacob's body across the sand. His head was bleeding and his nose was broken, but he was overall okay.

"You're an idiot," she told him as she pulled out her wand.

"I know," he said sadly. Marigold rolled her eyes. Peyton shot hexes at the Kelpie, who seemed to sense that Jacob was the weakest at the moment. He was trying to get at Jacob.

"Episkey," she casted on his nose, which righted itself and stopped bleeding. She also used Episkey to heal the splice on his head.

"You feel okay?" she asked.

"I guess," he asked, standing up and grabbing his wand. She was stood up and dusted off her skirt. Jacob grabbed her by the arm and they made eye contact. Marigold saw that he suddenly had dark bags under his eyes and he had a little bit of a crazed look in his eye.

"Why don't you like me anymore?" he asked in a harsh tone. Marigold glared at him and pulled away, avoiding the Kelpie.

"Avada Kadavara!" Symon and Finn yelled at the same time. The Kelpie roared in pain and then hit the water with a splash, dead. Marigold sighed and shook her shoulders, not trying to let the death get to her. It tried to kill you, she rationalize. But, a tear still fell from her cheek.

"What time is it?" she asked.

"Judging by the sun, it's about 4 o'clock," Seamus replied. But, the mood in the group was grim. Why did this always happen to them?

Adele noticed the tear falling down Marigold's cheek and actually felt a small surge of anger. That thing was pure evil. It nearly killed all of them, nearly ripped the flesh off her bones, and Marigold was crying for it?

"Should we...inform the authorities?" Gavin asked. "In case there are more?"

The lads chatted about that for a bit, while Finn and Symon flew in. They were sopping wet, bruised, and scratched up. Symon immediately came over to Adelaine and hugged her tight, while Seamus looked on, a bit heartsick at the sight. No one else seemed to notice them hugging, but she was flustered anyway at such a public display.

"Of all the things we've been through," Peyton started to say.

"This was definitely the worst," Finn finished.

"Kinda prepares ye for ta real world, though, don't it?" Seamus shrugged. "Not everythin' is a supervised school lesson."

"Got that right," Symon said, not seeing the glare Seamus shot him.

"Look at the water," Adele grimaced, staring out at the sea.

"Blood," Finn frowned, looking away.

They all glanced at one another, not quite sure what to say. Of course, they were all extremely exhausted. Without a word, they began to walk along the coast, toward Rockfort.

"At least we saw dolphins," Peyton muttered.

Marigold picked up her broom and carried it with them as they walked. She was little wet, her hair sticking to her face, but all in all, she was okay.

"Marigold. Your leg. It's bleeding," Finn pointed out to her. She looked down. There was a gaping hole in her dress, showing her calf, which was covered in blood.

"Woah. How did you not feel that?" Gavin ask as she sat on a rock. She tore the material around the hole and used it as a rag to clean the wound, which was only an inch deep and 6 inches long.

"Adrenaline. Man, I can't go back to Robert like this. And, I can't show up in something new. He'll flip out," Marigold said with dread, as she used a quick Episkey on her leg. Or, at least she tried to. It didn't work. She looked at her wand, which a small ring was added to.

"Oh man! Really,Robert? Really?" she said, trying to take it off.

"What's that?" Symon asked.

"A little German trick. You put it on someone's wand and it acts as a filter, letting an allowance of magic through," she said, putting her wand away, angry.

"Does it have a tracker in it? We know how he is," Jacob asked, handing her his wand.

"More than likely," she said. She used Jacob's wand for a quick little Episkey spell. Gavin shot Peyton a look as they realized that Jacob's wand didn't show any resistance to Marigold, like she had used it before.

"Hmmm....can we used a lengthening charm on the dress and then cut off the parts that don't even out?" Finn suggested as Marigold handed Jacob's wand back. Marigold let Finn try that and it worked like a charm.

"You're a genius," Marigold said happily. Finn took a little bow, everyone laughing a bit.

"Do you think the mermaids will come back, with the Kelpie gone?" Peyton asked as the group walked up a cliff.

"Look!" Gavin said, seeing things in the water. It was the mermaids!

"Oh wow!" Marigold said, standing on the edge of the cliff next to Gavin. They were waving at them, swimming about where their village was.

"They're thanking us!" Seamus said happily. The whole group waved back and the mermaids dove under the water. Marigold looked as all her friends had a huge smile on her face. She smiled, enjoying this moment.

Adelaine sighed as the sun showed the first signs of setting. They'd only been out for a short time, but so much had happened. Even after a whole year with this crew, she wasn't sure if she'd ever get used to being in peril.

"So, where we off ta now?" Seamus asked, though his face didn't match the excitement in his voice.

"The inn," Gavin said firmly.

"Home," Finn added.

"A bath," Peyton suggested, blushing when everyone turned to look at him.

The group carried on, and Adele figured she'd see them as far as the town center. It wasn't exactly on the way to the castle from the coast, but she was dreading going back to Emmy. (Little did she know that Marigold would be visiting a week from today).

"Well, here you are," she said as they arrived at the inn.

"I guess this is goodbye again," Finn mused sadly.

"Only until the tourney," Symon reminded him.

"Right, only two weeks away," Gavin grinned.

"Lady Adelaine?"

Adele turned her head so quickly it hurt. Mary was standing by the well, a basket hanging on her arm. Oh, bloody hell, she thought, trying to come up with some clever excuse.

"Mary, yes, hi, um," she stuttered, thinking fast. "I was just, uh.."

"It's my fault, dear Mary," Symon spoke up, putting on his most noble air. "I asked Lady Adelaine to meet me here, I seem to have forgotten my way to the castle. We were just getting fresh horses."

"Oh, of course, m'lord," Mary nodded, bowing slightly. She stood there, not knowing what to do.

"Um, we'll come with you, Mary," Adele said.

Symon gestured to Finn, and he ran to the nearest stables for four horses. When they came back, Adele whispered goodbye to her friends and waved, and the foursome took off toward Rockfort.

Marigold and the boys entered the inn, unsure of what to do. Jacob went back to his inn across town, saying good bye to the group.

"Ah. Perfect timing, Marigold. You have a.......what happened?" Robert started, before realizing that she was silent. Marigold blushed.

"Ummm.....well, you see we were just.....ummmm....." Seamus started.

"We just went for a walk and we're all very tired and hungry," Gavin covered for him. Robert looked at them skeptically. Marigold looked at the ground.

"Marigold," Robert said, in the fatherly voice that sent chills down any child's spine.

"We just went for a walk," she echoed Gavin, her ears turning red.

"Don't lie to me. The tips of your hair is wet and you smell like the ocean," he said, using his spying skills. Marigold blushed and boys shifted uncomfortably. Robert sighed and smiled.

"Well, I guess it's none of my business. You're only young once. Might as well enjoy it, whatever ya'll did," he said, climbing up the stairs to his room.

"That's not a good sign. I think I have to leave you guys here," Marigold told the boys.

"Well, we need to get back anyway. Thanks for the adventure," Gavin said, all of them giving her a hug.

"You're welcome. I'll see all of you at the tourney," she said happily, as they went through the Floopowder system. Marigold sighed and climbed up the stairs, where a hot meal was waiting for her in her room. She was alone, again. She sat on her bed and looked back on the day, a smile on her face, knowing that she and her friends had saved a village of mermaids.

It was a good day, she thought happily.
