PostSubject: Breakfast of Champions   5/16/2013, 10:16 am

Adelaine was wide awake early enough to watch the sun rise. She had been plagued by nightmares all week, and her lack of sleep was obvious by the dark circles under her normally bright eyes.

Finally she figured it must be around six o'clock; breakfast would just be getting started for the few others who woke as early as her. Adele climbed out of her four poster bed, reluctant to push off the fluffy dark blue quilt. The other girls in her dorm were fast asleep. "Lucky," she muttered under her breath. With her robes fastened and wand in her pocket, she tiptoed through the empty common room and out into the hall.

"Why is a raven like a writing desk?" she heard behind her.

"Oh, shut up," she replied and walked down the many steps to the Great Hall, the bronze eagle knocker sounding very confused about her answer.

As she suspected, there were very few students enjoying their breakfast at this hour. She saw no one she knew, and she didn't wish to sit alone, so she chose a seat next to a cheery looking Hufflepuff girl. Adelaine loved breakfast time at Hogwarts for this very reason: Houses did not matter.

"Mind if I join you?" she asked kindly and sat down across from the girl, eyeing the bacon and pumpkin juice in front of her.

It was a typical Monday morning and Rose was sadly wide awake unlike everyone else. Ugh. I hate Mondays, she thought to herself while putting on her robe to go get breakfast.

"Well, at least I'll be the first to eat all of the good stuff!" she said quietly as a grin spread across her face.

As she left the common room, she remembered that it was her 10 year old sister's birthday today. Happy birthday Elizabeth, she said in her head while smiling at the memories they had made before school started. Wish you were here.

As she sat down, a Ravenclaw girl sat down across from her. Rose said hello and started to eat her breakfast. She barely had time to say "So, what's your name?" before she was interrupted by a loud crash and a scream.

Generally Mitri was not one to wake with the rooster, this morning however, sleep evaded her. Bored of lying in bed counting the ribs of the ceiling, Mitri dressed herself and ran a hand through her uncontrollable mane she called hair. Deeming herself presentable, she went down to the Great Hall to indulge in breakfast.

Few people were up, but spotting a familiar face she hurried to where Adele sat with a Hufflepuff girl. Ever the klutz, while making her way to the two girls Mitri unluckily managed to trip over a minuscule piece of bacon, taking a milk jug she had grabbed with her. Flustered from the crash, she hurriedly stood, taking care not to trip and casually walked up to Adele.

"Do you mind if I join you two?" Mitri asked with a yawn. Not wanting to awkwardly stand, she seated herself and took into account the mounds of bacon in front of her. Delicious evil bacon.

Gathering some bacon for herself, with revenge in mind, Mitri said, "Morning Adele, how are you? Hello I'm Mitri, I'm sure we've shared a few classes together but I don't recall your name. Whom might you be? It is much too early... But at least there is actually still bacon on the table. Usually by the time I arrive for breakfast it has all but disappeared. To end this runoff paragraph, are we allowed to sit with people not from our houses? I don't want to be deducted House Points."

After finishing her monologue, Mitri took part in enacting her revenge, eating her delightful bacon. Bacon was truly a gift from above, unless you happened to trip on it.

Adelaine was just going to introduce herself to the Hufflepuff when they heard the crash. Her head spun around so fast she might have gotten whiplash, but it was worth it. Mitri Montgomery, her delightfully klutzy friend, had just tripped over a strip of bacon. How does that happen?

"Lovely morning, isn't it Mitri?" she asked nonchalantly, trying very hard to suppress a laugh.

It shouldn't have surprised her when the Gryffindor spouted out words for what felt like ten minutes. She did this often, so Adele indulged on her bacon and eggs, glancing across the table to see how their new friend was taking this.

"I believe your name is...Rose?" she asked politely when Mitri had finally shut up. "My name is Adelaine, but you can call me Adele."

Adelaine suspected Mitri was reaping revenge on all the bacon of the world as she munched on a mound of the delicious crispy strips.

"And yes, it's perfectly alright to sit with other Houses at breakfast."

"Well, it's very nice to meet you, Adele," Rose said across the table from her new friend. "And you as well, Mitri. Always fun to meet new friends, right?"

As she started chugging down her now warm glass of pumpkin juice, she thought to herself, Remember to send Elizabeth an owl asking how mum and dad are. She instantly put it in her to-do list, then decided to go to the other foods instead of filling up on heavenly bacon.

"I'm glad that we have some classes together Mitri," she said with a smile while eating a scone covered with marmalade.

She quickly finished and moved on to another scone. They reminded her of the ones her mother used to bake back at home; whenever her mother would bake, that is. Rose wouldn't let herself think about that now, though. Those memories always made her homesick.

"So, what do you guys have planned for today?", she changed the subject. "I was going to the lake later to --"

Her sentence was interrupted by a small orange thumping her in the back of the head. She turned around hastily to see who the culprit was.

Kolby put his head down and pretended to sleep as the orange he threw hit the unexpected Hufflepuff in the head. But, then, he started laughing to himself as he picked up an apple and started eating it, putting his feet on the table and enjoying his breakfast.

Marigold stretched as the birds started to chirp outside. It was early morning. Marigold looked around and noticed that Adele was missing. Probably went for breakfast.she thought, putting on her uniform, trying to ignore her growling belly.

The Great Hall was mostly empty but she did spot her friends sitting at a table, eating breakfast.

"Good morning Adele and Mitri."she said cheerfully sitting down. She almost didn't notice the Hufflepuff girl.

"Oh! Hi. I'm Marigold. And, you are?"she asked, rubbing her eyes and helping herself to some toast.

"Ow! What the heck?!" she said as she looked behind her.

What she saw was normal; A small group of Slytherins snickering at her. Another reason to hate Slytherins. she thought to herself while sighing and munching on a piece of toast. They always go for the innocent ones. Better warn Elizabeth about this.

Elizabeth was a wonderful little girl that Rose had always wanted to protect. She didn't want anything bad to happen to her. She was like a diamond that always had the risk of getting scratched.

As Rose was gulping down her second glass of pumpkin juice, she saw another Ravenclaw girl sit down and start to talk to Adele.

"Hello there," Rose said to the girl with a smile. "I'm Rose. I'm sorry, but you seem familiar. Have we met before??"

It appeared that everyone and their owl had woken up early this morning and decided to eat an early breakfast. Even the slimy Slytherins were up and about causing mischief. As the table quickly filled, Mitri occupied herself with the plethora of bacon that was heaped upon her plate.

"Ignore the Slytherins, it is much too early to fight. I can barely even remain conscious as it is. Hello Marigold. If I fall asleep into some porridge, would someone please wake me?" Mitri finished with a yawn.

To Mitri, Rose's thoughts seemed elsewhere rather than with chatting at those around her. Maybe something was troubling? Mitri was curious to find out, but didn't want to embarrass the girl in front of everyone. Why was the sky so pretty on this busy morning? Mitri longed for some rain. And, if magic deemed it possible, instead of the clouds bringing forth water they might bring bacon to all.

Adele simply couldn't fathom it. What was wrong with Kolby? Had he been dropped on his head as a baby, or held over a pit of poisonous snakes? And her friends; how could they just let him get away with it? She didn't know much about this Rose, but the girl needed to stand up for herself.

"Well, if the rest of you are going to ignore it," she said, standing up and feeling a bit more testy than she would have liked.

Without waiting for their responses, Adelaine marched straight over to where Kolby sat and snickered. She felt wreckless; In fact, she thought with a smirk, this must be what Arya feels like every day. She had no idea what she planned on doing, but she couldn't stop now.

"What is the matter with you, you highborn wannabe important little snake?" She got several shocked looks and gasps, but she payed them no mind. Adele hadn't realized how angry she was with the boy until she was standing right in front of him. She put her hands on the table and leaned in. "You want a food fight, is that it?"

With a flick of her wand, a vat of porridge exploded and soon he was covered in mushy oats.

Kolby didn't really expect anyone to fight back. His classmates though quickly started a food fight with the other tables, enjoying the mischief. Kolby quickly wiped some of the porridge from his face and threw it at Adelaine's. He then took his milk and splashed it all in her face.

"Got milk?"he asked. He then drew his wand.

"If it's a duel you want, it's a duel you get."he said.

"Flipendo!"he said, flicking his wand and aiming for Adelaine.

The Great Hall was in chaos.

The Great Hall had dissolved into pure chaos. Even students at the other end of the hall were throwing food at each other, though they had no idea why. Kolby had thrown milk and porridge at her, and she was not happy about it. Then, the snake dared to try and jinx her. But she was too quick for him.

"Protego!!" she shouted, knocking the jinx aside. Before anything else could be said or thrown, she said "Locomotor Mortis!"

Most of the students had stopped the food fight to watch the duel. This will certainly result in detention, she thought grimly. Adele hadn't planned on this happening, but she was more than willing to teach the kid a lesson. She'd been memorizing these spells since she learned to read.

In the midst of all the chaos ensuing the Great Hall, Mitri had unknowingly slipped into unconsciousness whilst her peers begun the great food fight. Her head drooped down onto her plate of bacon, nearly being hit by some flying porridge on its way. One could only wonder how she was able to sleep with the ruckus the other students were making.

"Bacon... revenge... porridge." Mitri muttered in her sleep.

Had she been awake, Mitri surely would have been joining in wholeheartedly to defeat those dastardly Slytherins. When she woke, she was going to be in for the surprise of a lifetime,

Deirdre watched the chaos that ensued. First a food fight, now the blond Ravenclaw girl and that snobby squire were dueling? She glanced at the teachers. Why weren't they reacting to this? You'd think Professor Renoir and Professor Aitken would have no patience for this sort of rubbish, let alone the Headmistress.

Should I..? She thought, holding her wand up. She had proven she wasn't very good at magic, but maybe she could help a possible friend? Her fingers brushed the ivy pattern. Ivy was a symbol of fidelity and friendship. Maybe she should take it as a sign to help the girl.

But what if she gets angry and hates me for it? She has as much a reason as anyone to hate Kolby... I should just stay out of this entirely. I'll get a chance some other time.

The young Irish girl put her wand down, her hands traveling up to her hair, braiding and unbraiding it.

Kolby felt his legs lock but like Adelaine, Kolby was trained in magic since he was little. His uncle made sure of that. Looking around, he saw that many people were fighting back. It was a bit disappointing to see that some of the Slytherins were getting defeated by Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws. Pathetic.he thought. Let me show them how it's done.

"Expelliarmus!"he yelled, pointing his wand at Adelaine. He smiled.

"Engorgio!"he said after that. He was hoping to see Adelaine swell up like a blueberry.

Marigold instantly ducked under a table to avoid a roll that a 5th year Slytherin threw at her. She drew her wand. She had to try to stop this. But, she was more concerned about her friends.

"Mitri, get under the table."Marigold said, shaking her friend awake. She looked around and saw that Rose was nowhere to be seen, that Adelaine was dueling Kolby, and that Deirdre was braiding her hair by the door.

The 5th year pointed his wand at her.

"Obscuro!"Marigold called out in self defense. A blindfold fell over the 5th years eyes and he tripped over a bench, a plate of hot pancakes landing on his face. She smiled to herself then ducked under the table to avoid the 5th years girlfriend.

"This is chaotic."Marigold said to Mitri.

Deirdre's hands left her hair and went for her wand once she heard what spell Kolby was casting. The fourth year Gryffindors had talked about it in the library once, going over the effect and the counter you could use.

"Reducio!" she called out the counter spell, aiming her wand at the other girl. She quickly ran in front of her. "I told myself I wouldn't get involved. But I won't let anyone like you get away with something like that. Petrificus Totalus!" She exclaimed.

Hopefully it would work and she could laugh about it with the other girls later.

The noise in the Hall was outrageous for so early in the morning. If only Adele were still warm and snug in her bed, or asleep in her bacon like Mitri..

"Pompous little worm!" she shouted as she successfully dodged Kolby's disarming charm. "Furnunculus!"

Then, the porridge-covered Slytherin finally got her. She could feel her face puffing up, when suddenly a sharp pain spiked up in her back. The swelling was going down, and an unfamiliar Hufflepuff girl ran in front of her, aiming to petrify the nasty snake. Hopefully, she would succeed.

Kolby drove to the right, avoiding the Hufflepuff girl's spell. It hit the Slytherin girl that was battling Marigold. The leg locking jinx must have worn off. Oh crud. I'm gonna get my head in the toilet later for that.he thought, thinking of a spell. He smiled and pointed his wand at Deirdre.

"Tarantallegra!"he yelled, hoping to see the poor girl dance like crazy. He smiled and threw a roll at Adelaine.

This is so much fun!he thought to himself.

Striding into the Great Hall, Nadia quickly ducked to avoid being hit with...what was that? Bacon? Sending a jinx back to the one who threw it, Nadia quickly took in the havoc around her. She smirked a little as she saw her fellow Slytherins arming against the other houses. Nadia felt she might as well join in the excitement and approached Kolby.

"What'd you do now? And who am I aiming at?" Nadia asked with a malicious grin.

This was going to be fun. Seeing two Gryffindors cower beneath a table, Nadia sent them a quick hex and stood back to back with Kolby, taking on the various students brave enough to attack her. This was surely an interesting breakfast.

The chaos was really getting out of hand. Kolby had thrown a roll at her, and was now attempting to jinx the Hufflepuff who'd come to her rescue. She threw a "protego" in front of her, deflecting it. The shouting was giving her a headache, she smelled like bacon, and none of the teachers were in the Hall to stop it. The sight of Nadia teaming up with Kolby threw her over the edge.

"ENOUGH!" she screamed at the top of her lungs, aiming her wand so quickly at Nadia's face she surely couldn't dodge. "PETRIFICUS TOTALUS!"

She pointed her wand to the ceiling and made bright red sparks shoot up into the air, hoping to get a teacher's attention. Luckily, one of them was just walking in and noticed.

"By God's nails Marigold, what happened while I was out?" Mitri asked, looking around the Great Hall in astonishment. Foods splattered the walls, tables were upturned, some of the floating candles seemed to have had a chunk taken out of them, and everyone looked ready for a battle to the death.

"You fall asleep during breakfast, and the Great War begins. This would only happen to me, how I stayed asleep with this all occurring I can only guess. What's our plan of action? It looks like Adele may need some backup... or not." Mitri faltered as she saw Adele take down Nadia. Uh oh, looks like the Professor isn't very happy, maybe I would have been better off asleep. Mitri said worriedly as she didn't want her friends to get in trouble.

Nadia knew the moment the spell was cast by Adele she had no chance of escaping it. Gathering her pride, Nadia did not avoid the spell, rather took it on headfirst and fell onto... Kolby whom she still had stood back to back with.

Her jaw clenched shut with a resounding snap but her eyes looked to the approaching Professor for help.

Bloody twit, she's no better than a mudblood. She's a traitor to her own kind. The insufferable dolt was going to get what was coming to her very soon if Nadia had anything to do about it, maybe she could even get Kolby in on it. Two heads are better than one, even if one lacks a brain (Kolby).

Deirdre gave a sigh of relief when Adele threw up a protection spell for her. She really didn't want to look like a fool.

"Thanks for that!" She reached for a bowl on the table behind her - which seemed to have pudding in it - and hurled it at the boy's head. Unfortunately, it missed due to Nadia's falling on top of him and wound up hitting a sixth year from Slytherin House. Deirdre panicked as the older girl rounded on her. She looked horribly angry.

"O ni."

The Great Hall was a chaotic mass of flying food everywhere Renoir looked. Where were the other staff members? She’d speak to Ellington of this, for certain. But what could the headmistress do, punish the entire school? A food fight was not the biggest deal….that was when she noticed the red sparks.

Bloody battering hell,” she cursed, wishing she could just sit peacefully with a cup of tea as she planned.

There was a small group of students dueling at the Slytherin table. What was going on? How long had this been going on? Miss Beaumont had just successfully petrified a Slytherin girl (which made Renoir fiercely proud) which seemed to stop things for the moment. Renoir whipped out her wand and with a wave, the food being thrown slowed, along with everyone else. When the spell was finished, the Hall was silent.

So” she said, marching toward the group. “You dare to use your wands in this Hall? To DUEL one another? As if any one of you knows what a proper duel is!

She flicked her wand at the Slytherin girl and muttered the counter spell. What was she going to do with these children?

I should disarm and stupefy every one of you to teach you a lesson,” she said maliciously, wishing she could. “But the Headmistress will want to hear about this. Parry, Beaumont, McCalahan, Murray, follow me.

She sauntered out of the Hall and on the Headmistress’s office.
