((OOC: This is a great resource for tourneys! http://www.ancientfortresses.org/medieval-tournaments.htm))

Arya sat on the hard ground, dirt rising in clouds around her every time she moved. I shouldn't have come, she thought regretfully. Tourneys were only fun for nobles. Peasants surely didn't enjoy them. Or did they? Looking around, she noted the excitement on the peoples faces. Sure, sitting in dirt was fun. While the higher up folk lounged in their raised pavilions, on benches with servers bringing them wine and food. The tent behind them sheltered Gavin and his house.

"This is fantastic," Asher said, nudging her. "Isn't this fantastic?"

"Sure," she muttered. "Couldn't Gavin get us anywhere better to sit?"

"Only if he lied and said we were all servents," Peyton shrugged. "'I can't believe Elsa gets to sit with them."

"Well, she is the steward's daughter," Arya rolled her eyes. "Where did Mira go?"

"To meet Edwin," Jon grumbled.

With a sigh, Arya stood and stretched her legs. The jousting would be starting any moment now. Gavin had explained it all to her as soon as she and Asher arrived in Northampton (Floo Powder). Two mounted knights presented themselves before the king; then they would take their places on either end of the lists, a short wooden fence between them. At the sound of the horn, they rode, trying to knock each other off with a blunted lance. Apparently, it could be dangerous. Fatal, even.

"Ah, look who's finally here," Asher pointed.

Far down to the right of them, one of the grander pavilions was filling up. It was connected to the Fendrel pavillion, and Arya recognized the gold and black dragon sigil on the tent. Adelaine had arrived, and Marigold would be with her.

Marigold watched as the seats were moved in from a distance, standing next to Mary and Adele. Marigold somehow managed to work her way up in the ranks at the Beaumont household. One of Adele's personal servant girls passed away from some illness and so Marigold was promoted.

"It's quiet grand, isn't it?" Mary whispered to her. Marigold smiled and nodded. The tent was huge, being connected to the Fendrels tent, and had the gold and black dragon sigil stitched into the side.

"Sir. The tent is ready," one of the servant boys working on it said. Marigold adjusted her dress and her bonnet.

"Excellent. Come. The joust is about to begin," Lord Beaumont announced, gesturing to Adele and the servants. Marigold grabbed a pitcher and filled it with wine, as Mary took a platter of fruit, both of them ready to serve the families. Marigold went down the line, filling each nobles cup. She shot a small smile at Adele and Symon, knowing that they would find a way for all three of them to sneak off and meet up with their friends. But, she kept her mouth shut.

"I hear that the Lydale boy has been betrothed," a noble lady said to another.

"I heard differently," the other noble lady replied. Marigold contained her smile and milled about.

"So, are any of your friends here?" Mary asked her quietly. Marigold smiled. Her and Mary had become friends while she was at the Beaumonts.

"Yes. I hope to see them here," she said happily.

"Well, don't get your hopes up. We have a lot of work to do," Mary replied. Marigold rolled her eyes and refilled the pitcher.

Adelaine squirmed around in the first row, feeling nervous. She never did enjoy tournaments, she'd seen far too much blood for her young age. Last year, in fact, a young knight snapped his neck when he hit the ground. It was horrible.

"Good to see you, Lady Adelaine," Symon said cordially, bowing and taking a seat next to her. The Fendrel pavilion was connected to the Beaumont pavilion, so they sat right at the border of their two tents.

"And you, my lord," she smirked, giggling at the formality. "Where is Finn?"

"He's sitting below," Symon gestured. "I believe he'll go find the others, they're all sitting in front of Gavin's pavilion."

She looked down a ways and saw the Lydale tent across the lists. Sure enough, there were all of her friends, laughing and talking like they were having all the fun in the world. It was never so much fun in the pavilions. More comfortable, yes; but the children were hardly allowed to talk freely, so really it was just a bunch of gossips babbling away. Add the fact that the king and his family were just a tent away, and you had quite a stiff and uncomfortable scene.

"Oh, great," she frowned, sighing and gesturing for Marigold to bring wine. She needed a friendly face at the moment.

"What is it?" Symon asked.

"My cousin has arrived," Adele told him.

As if on cue, Emmanuelle sat down in the second row, as far from them as she could, and glared snidely at Adelaine. The Armand tent was much smaller than theirs, but connected since they were kin.

Emmy sat in the second row with a huff. Why second? Why could she not sit in the front row, like Adele? As if that blood traitor was better than her somehow. If her father had still been alive, they'd be just as important as Kenric and his family. But, alas, she was stuck with the Armands.

"Do you need us to explain to you more clearly?" Cecily asked with mock-concern.

"Yes, we know how much the English language confuses you," Ralf added, swallowing a laugh. "The riders will go at each other three times and -"

"I do not need your 'elp," Em snapped.

She'd absolutely had it with those two. Her evil step-siblings. They'd been courteous enough when she moved to England, but the twins certainly showed their true colors soon after. They tormented her, made fun of her, all with an overly polite smile..

"M'lady?" A servant girl stood in front of her holding out a tray of pastries. Em shook her head and the server moved on. Where is Petyr? she thought, looking around. He was supposed to be one of the servers. A fan boy or something.

Kolby watched as his tent was assembled next to the Lydale's, his little sisters, Thea and Gloria, standing next to him. The green and orange tent looked basic compared to the Beaumont or Fendrel tent. But, it was something. And, it didn't look that bad next to Lydale's tent that was pure goldish yellowish color.

"Are we gonna see pretty horses?" Thea asked him, the ten year old girl,so very very very excited. Kolby smiled.

"Most definitely," Kolby said happily. Thea bounced up and down, as Gloria, 7 years old, stood there silently. Gloria confused the whole family. She never talked much, maybe a paragraph a day. But, she was very knowledgeable and very well read so the family didn't necessarily mind.

"Little ones, the tent is ready," Kolby's mother called. Kolby rolled his eyes. He was not a little one. Thea bounced forward as Gloria and Kolby walked up to the tent. Kolby sat next to his father and straightened his back, trying to ignore the itch his shirt was causing him. Richard and Ulric, his two older brothers were competing, just like they did when Kolby was 7, winning Barkley Castle for the family. That was when our colors were black and purple. Those were dark days, Kolby though to himself.

"Watch closely Kolby. You may be up there one day," Kolby's father said, as a servant poured his father wine.

"Yes, father," Kolby replied. He watched as the rare Falaise tent was assembled, connecting to the Masterson's tent, the tents fitting between the Beumont's and Rainey's. He didn't know much about the Falaise, except that Lord Falaise was mad. Kolby was itching to get to the Rainey tent. That's where Mick and Devan were.We could cause all sort of mischief he thought gladly.

"Oh. It seems like the Masterson boy and the Falaise girl have been betrothed," his mother commented.

"How appropriate," his aunt replied, as a servant boy fanned her. Kolby rolled his eyes. He didn't particularity like his cousins. They were lower on the noble chain than the Perry's were. They had a tent, a small one, that was connected to the Perry's. But, they were supposed to be about four tents down. If we weren't related, I'd say they should sit in the dust with the peasants, he thought bitterly. On top of that, his aunt and 2/3 of her children were Muggles. Kolby's father couldn't forgive his brother for marrying a Muggle noble lady. Kolby watched as more tents assembled, the de Hattes one squeezing in between the Lydale's and the Falaise's.

"Wine, my lord?" a servant girl asked. Kolby looked at his father, who winked at him. This was a servant girl who had magic in her blood.

"No, but a cold Butterbeer would be good," he lowered his voice to the girl, who smiled a tad and then left with a "Yes, my lord,". Kolby smiled. He knew that a Butterbeer was at this tourney.

"Kolby, my nephew, have any girls caught your eye at school?" his uncle asked. Kolby laughed and shook his head. This was gonna be a long day.

Dimia couldn't believe that her father agreed to connecting tents with the Masterson's. She now had butterflies flying around in her stomach at just the thought of being near her betrothed, Alec Masterson. They were late, as her father had another fit, and the Masterson's had been waiting all day. But, they didn't mind. The tents were very quickly assembled and the family was ushered in, the red tent with a purple bow and arrow stitched in looking glorious in the sun.

"Dimia. Come. Sit here," her father gestured as she looked for a place to sit. Dimia nodded curtly and sat next to her father, who was next to Lord Masterson, who Alec sat beside. He's three people away from me! Oh! Stop it! He's just a boy! What's there to be scared about? What if they want us to sit together? What if he touches me? I might just faint. Stop it! He's not a god; he's a boy! He's my future husband! Stop it, Dimia. Get yourself together, Dimia thought in an inner conflict with her thoughts and emotions. She crossed her ankles and folded her hands, trying to calm herself down.

"So, Dimia, are you excited about next year?" Lord Masterson asked.

"Next year?.....Oh! Yes, my lord. I'm very excited," Dimia said, her ears turning red from forgetting she was going to Hogwarts next year.

"What house are you hoping for?" Alec asked, staring her down with his blue eyes.

"Well, I am hoping for Gryffindor, like my dear dad got, but Ravenclaw, like my mother, wouldn't be so bad," she said, with a smile. Alec smiled back and conversation about Hogwarts ceased. I wonder what Reyne and Lynette have been up to. I must ask them tomorrow, she thought, smiling to herself. The men gossiped about the hunts they have had and their estates. Dimia assumed her role of a lady, seen but not heard.

"Hello, Lady Dimia," Alec said, sitting beside her and kissing her hand, catching Dimia off guard because she never even seen him move. Don't faint, don't faint, don't faint, she thought to herself.

"Hello, Lord Alec. Enchanted as always," she managed to reply. He smiled. Alec was one of the more attractive young lords, with blonde hair and blue eyes. And, on top of that, his family was wealthy.

"So, are you nervous about school?" he asked, sipping at a weird beverage. Must be a wizard ale or something, she thought. Alec noticed her curiosity and ordered her one too.

"Quite a bit, yes," she said. It was weird how casual they were with each other. But, it was.....nice. A nice change in pace, other than formalities 24/7.

"Well, don't be. The people are fantastic and you'll fit in perfectly, especially if you get Gryffindor." he said, passing her the beverage he order. She took a sip and smiled. It was cold but it tasted wonderful!

"And, why exclusively Gryffindor?" she asked,  sipping at the drink.

"Because I'm there, of course," he replied as a joke. Dimia let out a little laugh and then covered her mouth as her father cleared his throat, implying they were too loud. Alec smiled at her. Okay. This marriage could work out, she thought happily.

Reyna sipped honeyed wine and fidgeted in her seat. The jousting was meant to begin any minute now. She sat in the second row at the far right side of the tent...directly next to the royal pavilion. Prince Lionel was greedily staring her down, and it was making her ridiculously uncomfortable.

"Do you think we'll be able to talk with them?" Lynette whispered, scooting closer to her.

"With who?"

"Them, of course," she nodded toward the royal family.

"You've talked to them before, they're not that exciting," Reyna rolled her eyes.

Lynette gasped like she'd just heard the most scandalous thing. Reyna sighed and shook her head, staring out of the tent. The order of the noble pavilions was the same every year: the highest ranks sat on either side of the king, the second highest ranks sat across from the king. In the mind of the regulators, the other houses didn't really matter.

"Look at Dimia," Lyn smirked, pointing across the way. "Getting all flustered next to Alec Masterson."

"Don't gossip," Reyna said absently.

Suddenly, the horn blared. The entire field went silent as the king stood. Two knights presented themselves. They stood looking up at him and removed their helms. The royal crier stepped forward.

"Sir Esmond Lydale of Warwick," he announced, pointing out one of the most handsome fellows Reyna had ever seen.

"That's Gavin's brother," she heard Symon whisper. "He's a hard one to beat."

"Riding against him is Sir Ulric Parry of Berkely," the crier continued, pointing to a young blonde.

The crowds cheered loudly until King Edgar raised his hands. The two knights bowed and mounted their horses. Once again, the people clapped and hollered as the lads rode around. Reyna wasn't positive what they were doing until Sir Esmond stopped in front of her pavilion. He held his hand out to her and she was gently pushed toward him.

"My lady," he bowed gallantly. "Might I have a favor, as a token of luck?"

"Yes, Sir," Reyna blushed fiercely. She wasn't sure what to give him, but she'd read about these things all her life, and basically all her dreams were coming true in that moment; she could have fainted. Quickly, she pulled a golden ribbon out of one of her braids and handed it to him. "Good luck, Sir Esmond."

Her tent cheered, and Esmond grinned beautifully, wrapping the ribbon around his lance.

It had taken Mira quite a while to find Edwin; after all, nearly the whole country was at this tournament. She finally found him somewhere near the royal pavilion. Of course, she remembered. His father is practically the same rank of a lord.  Same rank, but if his title wasn't noble, he wouldn't be sitting with the king. Their pavilion was slightly lower than the royal one, but still white with a golden crown stitched into it. It would have been connected, but the right side was taken over by the French kin to the royals, in a red tent. The king's men (such as Edwin's father, and various higher ups) were connected to the red tent.

"Let's go find the others," Ed said, after he'd explained everything. "I don't fancy sittin' where I have to behave properly."

"I agree," Mira laughed. "They're all the way over there, in front of the Lydales."

After what felt like forever, they made it over to the group. Just in time, too. The knights finished circling and took their places. They replaced their helms and positioned their lances. King Edgar raised his hands to quiet everyone.

"Let the jousting commence!" he shouted ceremoniously.

The man with the horn stood and blew it loudly. And so the jousting began. Esmond and Ulric rode ferociously toward one another. Lances aimed...and...missed. The riders straightened up and took their places. Round two. The horn blew. They took off...lances aimed...and..Esmond barely swiped Ulric's arm.

"Oh, come on!" Mira heard Gavin yell above her.

"He'll get it," Asher muttered.

"Have you been to a tourney before?" Mira asked quickly, not taking her eyes off the lists.

"No, but I've seen Esmond ride."

The horn blew again. Lances aimed...and....BAM! Esmond's lance hit Ulric hard in the gut, knocking him clear off his horse. The crowd went absolutely wild. A man ran over to help Ulric, while Esmond did a small victory lap. The knights rode off and two more were brought in. Esmond would be competing again tomorrow.

Petyr got distracted by the joust. Em's step sister cleared her throat and Petyr went back to fanning her. Spoiled. All of them. Spoiled, he thought bitterly. He didn't mine serving Emmy or her father, but golly, he hated Emmy's step siblings.

"Well, that was boring," the step sister complained. Petyr actually found it very interesting. It was for honor and dignity, but it was sorta dumb too. These men could get hurt. Yet, they still do it for the entertainment of king and his subjects.

"I agree,"her sibling comments. Petyr went to get a platter of fruit for the step siblings.

"Isn't this great?" a servant girl named Maria. Peytr smiled and blushed. Him and Maria were friends.

"I supposed. Beats working in a kitchen," Peytr said. Maria let out a little giggle and they get back to work.

(OOC: I had no clue what to write for Petyr.)

((OOC: Kind of picturing the twins as the Siamese cats from Lady & the Tramp, lmao.))

"It's not boring, it's practice for war," Adelaine spat at Cecily, whom she and Symon had moved closer to for a better view.

"Something you'll understand someday," Symon sneered at Ralf.

Adelaine couldn't be sure, but she could have sworn she saw a smile on Em's face. It gave her hope. They'd never be friends, but at least allies against these spoiled idiots. Emmy was spoiled as all get-out, to be sure; but somehow, Ralf and Cecily were even worse. Probably because they did it all with that mocking polite countenance.

"Whatever," Cecily rolled her eyes. "Shouldn't you be back over there?"

"Next to the royal family, you mean?" Symon said innocently, though he achieved exactly what he wanted: rubbing it in the brats' faces.

The twins said no more, and Adele snickered. Two more knights were brought out, the second to last pair of the day. One was Bart, whom Symon told her was Peyton's older brother. I didn't know he had siblings, she thought curiously. The lad couldn't be more than 17, and had the same red hair and pale face as his younger brother. His opponent was Sir Raymond, one of the knights of the royal family.

"Two pounds on Raymond," Ralf turned to Symon, challenging him.

"Deal," Symon said, betting on Bart.

Please let Bart win, she begged the Tourney Gods. Don't give this weasel the satisfaction.

Marigold was trying to do her job, but the tourney was very interesting. She was always refilling drinks. The three tents were bustling as their were three families to take care of. Luckily, she wasn't alone.

The servants were having a good time, along with the nobles. They were talking and laughing between servings; they also got a very good view of the tourney. A much better view than the peasants on the ground, although she rather be there with her friends.

"Watch out!" Cecily, Adele's cousin step sister, yelled at Marigold, scaring Marigold and making her spill the whole pitcher over herself. The step siblings laughed at her as Mary took her place and Marigold went to get herself cleaned up.

"You're gonna need to use your other dress dear," an elderly servant said, coming back to help her after Marigold tried scrubbing it out. Five minutes later, Marigold was back to serving. She was a bit upset that one of her two dress' was ruined but there wasn't much she could do. The step siblings were still grinning like idiots when she came back. But, she avoided them and got back to serving.

"More wine, my lord and lady?" Marigold asked Symon and Adele, a small smile on her face. She was trying to stay out of their way because a 3rd round was going on between Bart and Raymond. They were tied.

"Sure. Sit down really quick so we can see," Symon told her, very interested in the joust. She sat down beside Symon and refilled both their cups. Bart and Raymond went charging at each other and.....

"Yes!" Symon said happily, as Bart won. But, he also knocked his drink over, spilling it on Marigold's other dress. She sighed in defeat.

"I'm so sorry," Symon apologized.

"It's alright, my lord. Excuse me. I have to go change," she said, leaving again to change into another dress. Today was just not her day.

"WOOOO!!!" Peyton cheered louder than anyone else in the crowd when Bart won.

"Alright Barty!" Asher shouted with a grin.

Arya clapped and smiled, having more fun than she thought she would. Seamus had joined them, along with Mira's brother Toren (Arry suspected he'd been pickpocketing the spectators; old habits die hard). The last pair of the day were about to ride, and after that there'd be markets opened up. Food stalls with (almost) freshly baked breads and pastries, kegs of ale, fresh fruit. Of course, the nobles would be getting the really good stuff.

"I'm starving," Arry grumbled.

"I gotta hankerin' fer a fruit tart," Seamus agreed, dusting off his pants for the fiftieth time.

"Sir Richard Parry of Berkely," the crier was announcing. Their little group cheered, as it was Kolby's brother. "Riding against Sir Marvin Harvey of Cornwall!"

Once the competitors had made the lap to get a favor, they took their places. Peyton and Seamus quietly bet a few Sickles and the first horn blew. Immediately, Richard's lance knocked Marvin over.

"Yeah!" Seamus laughed, having won the bet.

"Yes!""Kolby cheered excitedly. His father beamed proudly as Richard knocked down Sir Marvin. Richard took a victory lap around the ring, the crowd cheering.

"That a boy Richard!" Brom yelled. Mary rolled her eyes and smiled proudly at her son. Thea and Gloria clapped like good little ladies.

"Brom, must I remind you that we're nobles?" Mary said as Brom continued to cheer.

"Tybalt, I would get your wife in line. It's not a woman's place to question a man," Brom jeered back. Mary moved to rise, but Tybalt put his hand on her knee.

"Tybalt," Mary whispered.

"I know dear. But, when Brom's had much to drink, there's no arguing with him," Tybalt whispered back, stroking her cheek. Mary sighed and turned to Thea and Gloria, fixing their ribbons. Kolby sighed. Poor mum, he thought.

"Time for dinner, my lord," a servant said.

"Excellent. Let's eat," Tybalt said.

"Father, I would like to catch up with my friends. Is it alright if I eat with them?" Kolby asked.

"Who are your friends?" Mary asked, still treating him like a child, worrying about his safety.

"The young lords Mick and Devan Rainey, mother," Kolby responded.

"Go. Have fun. There father is a good man. Give him my regards," Tybalt said, giving him some Galleons. Kolby bowed and took off for the Rainey tent.

Day 2

The sun was shining, birds were chirping, and Reyna's teeth were chattering. Sir Cole would be riding today, and she was more nervous than ever. He was a brilliant competitor, to be sure; he even came in second place last year. But tourneys were known to have at least one fatality each year, according to Lynette. Of course, I shouldn't listen to Lyn, Rey told herself. Who knows where she heard that.

"Where will you be sitting today?" Symon asked her, glancing around for his friends.

"Here, of course," she said, confused.

"You do know that after the first day, we can sit in whatever pavilion we want?"

"Oh, um..no. I didn't know that," she admitted.

Reyna looked down at the lists. With Sir Cole riding, she really would feel more comfortable around family.

"Let's ask Dimia to sit with us," Lyn suggested, pointing across the lists.

"Grand idea," Reyna nodded, waving to Dimia and motioning for her to come over.

Dimia rubbed the sleep out of her eyes as she watched her father and Alec's father chat. She was not a morning person. She squinted her eyes as the sun blazed overhead. Alec was already gone to hang out with his friends. Dimia smiled when she saw Renya waving her over to the Fendrel tent.

"Father, I'm going to sit with Reyna Fendrel," she told her father. He smiled and nodded.

"Be careful dear," he said as Dimia curtsied and went to the Fendrel tent.

"Good morning Dimia," Lyn greeted as she sat down.

"Good morning," Dimia greeted back, even though her voice was coated in sleepiness. Dimia was a heavy sleeper.

"So, are you excited for the joust today? I think Alec's brother is competing. What was his name?" Lyn tried to remember.

"Alec has three older brothers, Abel, Adam, and Adrian. Abel is the one competing today. Adam will be competing tomorrow," Dimia informed, again rubbing her eyes. She could sleep to noon if she had the chance.

"Why all A names? That's kind of weird," Lyn commented.

"It's a tradition with all the males in the Masterson family," Dimia said.

"Well, aren't you educated?" Lyn said, elbowing her. Dimia smiled and rolled her eyes. Of course she knew a lot about the Masterson's. They were betrothed after all.

Adelaine sat in the Beaumont tent, very near to throwing a temper tantrum. Her father knew she was friends with commoners, and he barely tolerated it; but he refused to allow her to be seen with them at an event like this, surrounded by so many noble families.

"I'll disguise myself, father," she begged.

"I said no, now drop it," he demanded coldly. "I don't care that Gavin Lydale will be sitting with them, I don't even care if Symon does, but you are a Beaumont. We have an image to uphold."

"I'll mess my hair up, I'll wear torn clothes -"

"No! Those boys can get away with it," he continued. "But your face and your hair will give you away immediately, you look just like me."

Lord Beaumont left it at that and walked out of the tent, leaving Adele to simmer in her anger. If she was braver, she'd go against his word and sit with her friends anyway; but she couldn't disobey Kenric Beaumont.

"Where will you be today, m'lady?" Mary asked, coming over to brush her hair.

"With my friends," she said decisively. "Don't bother brushing my hair. Do you have a dress and a shawl I can borrow?"

Arya and Gavin ran to their group with a bundle of fruit tarts, straight from the Lydale tent. Seamus and Peyton laughed gleefully when they saw, and they all dug in.

"Yer lookin' lovely, mate," Seamus joked, nudging Gavin.

Gavin was in disguise today. His hair was messy, his clothes looked like they'd been stolen straight off a farmer's back, and he wore a dirty old cap. He looked about as noble as a mule. Still adorable, though, Arya thought dreamily.

"Let's get a move on," Gavin said.

"Lord, your accent's gonna give you away," Peyton said, chuckling.

They headed over to an empty little plot of dirt, and sat down. To make sure no one would recognize him, Gavin insisted they sat a little ways back, and not in front of any pavilion. They'd still be able to see the jousting just fine from here.

"Blimey, is that Adele?" Peyton whispered as a peasant girl joined them.

A closer look told them that, yes, it was Adelaine Beaumont. She was looking rather rough, despite the grin on her face, with a ragged dress and a shawl over her head to cover her platinum locks. And she looked tanner; Adele had lightly smeared dirt all over her face and blended it in. Smart, Arry thought. The group grinned and laughed, and the crowd settled in for the first riders of the day.

Marigold was going to catch up with the group later. It was her day off, so she went to see if her parents were at the de Hattes tent.

"What if they're not here?" Asher asked, tagging along with her.

"I just got to see them again," she replied. He sighed and nodded and waited by the back entrance of the tent as she ducked inside. She disguised herself with a shawl and looked around for her mom and dad. Her mother was brushing one of the de Hattes girls hair.

"Momma," Marigold said. Her mother turned around and smiled.

"I'm so glad you're alright," she said as the de Hattes girl ran off. They hugged and Marigold felt right at home again. "Where have you been?" her mother asked as they stepped outside. Asher smiled.

"I've been serving at the Beaumonts household," Marigold told her.

"Well, at least, you have a bed and food. We were worried sick about you," her father said, popping into the conversation.

"Papa," Marigold said, hugging him from around the neck.

"Hello, my little flower," he greeted, hugging back. They talked for a good ten minutes before her parents had to go back to work. They hugged again and her parents went inside the tent.

"Come on. Let's go. Our friends are waiting," he said, as they walked to where everyone was sitting.

"About time, the joust is about to begin," Gavin said as they sat down.

Kolby sat at the Rainey tent, enjoying the slightly better view they got. Mick and Devan were great hosts, as usual. Kolby felt right at home, like he was their long lost brother.

"Our first challengers of the day. Sir Abel Masterson," the announcer said. A roar of cheers came from the crowd as he rode out.

"That's Alec's brother," Mick commented.

"Who?" Devan asked. Mick rolled his eyes.

"Alec Masterson. He's on the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Abel graduated a few years back. He was captain and Asher took his place," Mick explained. Kolby shrugged and clapped. He watched as Abel rode over to his betrothed and asked for a token. He tided it around his lance.

"And, Sir Cole of the Fendrel household," the announcer said.

"Ooh. Man, Cole is gonna be hard to beat. He came in second last year," Devan commented. Kolby laughed and took a sip of wine. They were in for a treat.

"Let the joust begin!" the announcer said, a huge cheer erupting from the crowd. The jousters took their mark and they rode towards each other.

"They missed?! Both of them?" Devan exclaimed. Kolby laughed and elbowed him. This was a very interesting match.

Mira sat in front of the Lydale pavilion with Elsa, Jon, Toren, and Edwin. Her father was sitting a ways back, chatting with a few fellow Northampton travelers.

"I can't believe it, they've missed again!" Ed exclaimed, referring to Sir Cole and Sir Abel.

"What 'appens if they never knock each other ov'r?" Toren asked, chugging water from a canteen.

"If neither knocks the other over after the third round, it's a tie," Elsa explained. "Then they'll both have to compete again the next day."

She must have jinxed the knights, because they missed again. The crowd cheered, loving seeing such a match in skill. The next two knights were brought out. Sir Roger Armand of Scarborough and Sir Bart of Warwick (Peyton's brother, again). What happened next, none of them would ever forget...

It was only the second match of the day, and Emmy was already exhausted. The Terror Twins had been hounding her all day, Annette had cried all night, and her butterbeer was flat.

"Pardon," she called the attention of the nearest server. "Anozer of zis drink."

The twins snickered behind her, and she rolled her eyes. She wasn't going to let them get to her today. The horn blew, and Em leaned in to watch the joust. Her eldest step-brother, Roger, was riding against some hedge knight. Roger was nothing like Ralf and Cecily. He was gallant, kind, understanding, and...

"OH MON DIEU!" she screamed, along with the rest of the crowd.

Her ears were ringing, and it was all she could hear. She could feel her cheeks burning, and dizziness swept over her. There were too many people in the way, she couldn't see him... Next to her, Lord Armand stood still as a statue. Behind her, Cecily was crying. Emmy forced herself to stand and go to the rails to get a better look. Roger's side was bleeding fiercely. Several physicians had rushed to his aid. A man just ripped out the splintered tip of the lance.

"No, no, no," she said over and over to herself. She couldn't lose Roger. Who else would she have left on her side?

Reyna nearly fainted when the lance went through Sir Roger's side. What if it had been Sir Cole? she thought, rather selfishly. Poor Sir Bart was in a frenzy; he looked terrified. Of course he would, if Lord Armand decided to investigate it wouldn't go well for him... But Reyna doubted the lad had done it on purpose. Perhaps Lynette had been right about the fatalities.

"Horrific," Symon muttered.

"Horrendous," Jacob Monfort agreed, next to him.

"Is he...dead?" Lynette whispered, tears in her eyes.

"Don't know," Reyna replied numbly.

He wasn't dead yet, anyway. The physicians hefted him onto a stretcher and carried him off the field and into the hospital tent. The tent was an ominous shade of red; Symon said it was to hide the blood.

"Maybe he'll pull through," Jacob said matter-of-factly, putting an arm around Lyn's shoulders.

Jacob Montfort and his kin had been old friends of the Fendrel clan for as long as Reyna could remember. They were practically family. Actually, they may have been distant cousins...she'd have to ask later. Anyway, she wasn't sure Symon had friends aside from Jacob and that stableboy, Finn.

"So what now? Surely they won't move along with the jousts," Reyna wondered aloud.

Just after she said that, the herald stood to announce an hour-long break in the competition.

Drust chuckled softly as Tari wove back and forth through the crowd ahead of him. He attempted to keep his focus trained on her. Often before had he gone to these events, but with a child in his upkeep, they seemed a lot more hectic. Privately he hoped to spot one of his fellow professors at the event, yet he recalled that such events were not really to their styles.

"Tari, I'm going to go talk with some of the other nobels, keep your wand on you and should there be trouble, fire a stun into the sky. Go find your friends, hmm?"

He smiled to her before turning into the crowd, Tari nodding happily. The set of blond braids belonging to her streaming behind her as she happily dodged her way through the crowd, directly bumping into someone.

Marigold watched the healers as they took Sir Roger away. So that's the healing tent. Hmmm.... she thought. Then, she saw a healer run back for the lance and gasped.

"Are you kidding me?" Asher said. Marigold grabbed his arm and shook his violently.

"He's alive! Robert's alive!" she said, shaking him excitedly.

"I can't believe it," Asher said, in complete shock.

"I need to talk to him. Be right back," Marigold explained, taking off.

"Wait! Ugh. Marigold," Asher said, following her. Marigold ran through the tents, avoiding people. Asher caught her by the arm before she could run into the healing tent.

"Asher," Marigold complained.

"Look, you can't just run around in a tourney. Also, you can't just go into the healing tent, demanding to see Robert. He might be in disguise," Asher explained, trying to calm her down. She was bouncing up and down, super excited. "Marigold, I don't want you getting your hopes up. So, you need to calm down and clear your head and think logically. This isn't the best time and you know that. They're possibly trying to save Roger's life. He needs to be focused,"

"But, Asher......" she started.

"Shh," Asher shushed, putting his finger over her lips. Marigold blushed. "We'll have to come back later, when they're not super busy. Now, come on. Let's see if they have any Butterbeer somewhere," he said, leading her away from the healing tent. Marigold felt very disappointed. Asher got her a Butterbeer (Gavin gave him some Galleons) and they went back to the group.

"Did you get to see him?" Peyton asked. Asher just shook his head as Marigold sat down with a pout.

"We'll visit him later. Promise," Asher told her. She just nodded and drank her Butterbeer.

Petyr watched the Armand family as the girls broke down into tears. He was very sad about what happened. All the servants were. Lord Armand went to the healing tent to check on Roger. He stood there awkwardly, unsure what to do.

"What should we do?" a servant asked.

"What's there to do?" another countered.

"Well, we're on an hour break," the one said.

"So? That doesn't mean we can stop serving," the second said. Petyr stopped eavesdropping and grabbed a platter of fruit.

"Lady Armand, would you like anything?" Petyr asked, as a servant boy and as a friend.
