Almira cleaned the board with a wave of her wand as her first-years arrived. Hopefully this class time would prove to be interesting. She had a plan brewing for this class, and could not wait to execute it.

"Everyone, please place your essay on your tables, I will be around to pick them up shortly. Today we will be testing our Cure for Boils we made last class, and creating the Antidote to Common Poisons. For our demonstration I will need a volunteer, Mr. Perry you will do! Perhaps this will keep you awake in class." Almira smirked.

Gathering the essays, some she noticed to be much too short, others too long, did they think she did not know what five feet looked like? If they thought they would be put in her favor by exceeding her instructions, they would be sorely mistaken. No one wished to grade another foot on bat wings, five feet from each student was already too much! Summoning the Cure for Boils potions made by her students, and her own if something were to go wrong, to her desk, Almira anticipated the day's lesson.

Evangeline had made her way into class a little earlier,as always.Just becuse she was a Lady, didn't mean she had to be late.Instead, she had to show good behavior, knowledge, and anything else needed.Making her way in,Evangeline took a seat in the back of the classroom, trying to draw as less attention as possible.
The teacher started talking, and Evangeline placed her essay on the side of her desk, just before she gave it one last glance. It wasn't too big..neither too small.Just the right amount of words.Sitting alone, she waited for more people to arrive. The Professor's comment about a fellow Slytherin, made a small laugh erupt,as her eyes followed her classmate.

Beatrix walked in, carrying her book in hand. with a worried expression found a seat next to Francis. giving her book to the center of the table.

thank goodness your here!" Beatrix said with a worried sigh.

Beatrix pulled out her feather quill and ink and her paper. She layed them neatly in a row in front of her and quietly waited for the lesson to begin.

Kolby rolled his eyes when he saw what Professor Aitken put on the board. Like she'll actually test potions on a student. Yeah. Right.he thought to himself. He sat next to a Slytherin he didn't know. He turned in his essay. He only found enough material to get about three and a half feet. Some first year took all the reading material. Probably an overachieving Ravenclaw. He put his books down and then turned to the girl.

"Hi. I'm Kolby Parry. And, you are?"he asked. She seems nice enough. I guess. he thought.

Arya grumbled her way down to the dungeons for Potions. It wasn't her least favorite subject by any means; in fact, she was rather decent at it. But it was far too early in the morning and she had gotten little to no sleep the night before.

"Good morning, Professor Aitken," she lazily greeted the sour looking teacher.

Finding an empty seat at the table in the back corner on the left side of the classroom, Arry set her four foot long essay out in front of her. It had been pure agony and she hadn't even made it to the set amount of feet. Not too many had.

"Ready to test some potions, Kolby?" she grinned to the Slytherin a few desks away from hers.

Marigold walked into the potions dungeons holding her books to her chest. She looked around, looking for someone to sit by. She saw a Hufflepuff and a Slytherin sitting at a couple of desk. Kolby and another Slytherin were by them. A bad combination.she thought. Marigold looked over her essay, which was the exact amount. Marigold had hit up to library the day the essay was assigned and got all the reading material she could. Then, she saw Arya over by herself. She smiled. Arya was her good friend.

"Good morning Arya. Can I be partners with you again?"Marigold said cheerfully.

Adelaine peered into the Potions classroom. Arya and Marigold were already partnered up, and Mitri was nowhere to be found. Perhaps Deirdre will arrive soon, she thought, walking into the room.

"Morning you two," she waved to her friends, then smiled curtly at the professor.

She noticed that the table in front of Arya and Marigold was empty. Perfect. Adele sat down and placed her five and a half foot essay on her desk. It had taken her forever to write it, but she was proud of it. It always made her feel quite accomplished to finish a difficult task.

Deirdre walked in with her essay in hand. It was a little short, just under five feet of parchment. She had forgotten until the day before and had to write what she could as quickly as possible.

"Morning, Professor." she greeted the woman.

The Hufflepuff noticed that almost everyone had a partner already. She was about to sit alone when she noticed Adele was without a partner as well.

"Hello, Adele! Would you like to be my partner for today?"

((There ya go! I'll sit next to you.))

Beatrix begins writing an essay although not to sure what to write about. after having drawn some flowers on the side of the paper.

i love to add my own flair she thought quietly to herself.

Beatrix raised her hand until the teacher called on her.

"May I use the book to write my essay; being new I have no idea what to say please?"

Evangeline kept quiet as more students started coming. She was watching the girls talking, being all bubbly and happy, and sighed to herself, thinking that there weren't many people that truly liked her.It was sometimes hard to watch people being together and happy, while she sat alone. But tha was life. And you never knew what was coming towards you.

That's when a boy came and sat next to her, shaking her out of her thoughts.Turning to look at him,Evangeline noticed that it was the fellow Slytherin boy the Professor had talked about.Smiling,Evangeline offered her hand, hoping that this could lead to a friendship in the future.
"I am Evangeline D'Helion. It's nice to meet you,Kolby."

Evangeline was nice, which was unusual for a Slytherin. But, it was a nice change in pace. Anyone besides that viper Nadia. Kolby smiled and shook her hand. He placed his stuff on the table. He finally found a decent potions partner.

"I don't believe we have met before. I'm a squire under my cousin, Sir Clifton, who is the son of King Rowan of Oxford, my uncle. Are you an aristocrat? Knowing that most Slytherins are pure bloods, I'm sure you come from a high ranking family."he asked, trying not to insult the girl.

Arry tapped her fingers on the desk and stared into space. She hated waiting for lessons to start, especially when she had no one to talk to. Then she noticed Marigold heading toward her.

"Hello, there," she smiled, snapping back to reality. "We were quite the team last time, so certainly!"

She looked around the room and observed; Kolby had found himself a new Slytherin playmate. A rather high and mighty looking girl with dark hair. Great, she thought. As if Nadia wasn't bad enough. The last thing Hogwarts needed was a TEAM of troublemakers.

"Gods be good, when are we going to get started?" she muttered, turning toward her Ravenclaw friend and lowering her voice. "Do you suppose Aitken will really test on Kolby? I hope so.."

"Having a good day, Deirdre?" she asked cheerfully as the Hufflepuff sat next to her.

This lesson couldn't be too bad, not with the people she sat with. They had chosen the perfect two tables. Arya and Marigold sat at the one behind Deirdre and Adele. Adelaine twisted slightly around to join in the conversation.

"I wouldn't put it past her," she said under her breath, making sure the professor wouldn't hear. "Aitken and Renoir have got to be the two scariest professors I've ever met."

"Yes. How is yours?" Deirdre replied.

She turned to the other girls, smiling brightly. She was happy to be with sitting together with them. She was a little nervous about what would happen with her potion, though. It had been very poorly made and the added dragon's blood could cause a problem.

Why did the cauldron not just melt or something? That would have been a better outcome.

Deirdre tried to hide how nervous she really was, or at least pass it off as a reaction to what was being said about the professors.

"You're certainly right about that. They're both perfectly frightening!" she said.

Marigold shrugged and read over her essay one last time. She was really nervous. But, she really has learned a lot from this assignment.

"Did you know that every element of a bat's skeleton is made of patagium? That's why it's easier to crush bat bones. Patagium is flexible but not durable, meaning they can break into parts easily."Marigold told her friends out of nowhere. She instantly blushed and sighed. She was always the one to memorize random facts and then regurgitate them later. Not exactly helpful.

Mitri sent a wave to her friends as she entered the dark Potions classroom. Spotting a lone Hufflepuff who seemed confused, Mitri quickly sat beside the girl.

"Hi, did you ask about the essay? We were supposed to complete it for homework from last lesson. Did you do it? I can help you if you haven't. I'm Mitri by the way!" Mitri said with a smile.

Hopefully the Professor wouldn't bite this girl's head off just yet, Hufflepuffs weren't known for being able to take criticism well. Then again, if the Professor yelled at Mitri she wouldn't be feeling much of her Gryffindor courage.

Nadia strolled into Potions with something that might be mistaken for a smile upon her face. One might think the action suspicious. Sensing an opportunity to embarrass Marigold, Nadia took a seat nearby.

"With your wit Marigold, you'll have a man in no time! I'm sure your small collection, if any, of potential suitors will be extremely interested in bat wings. Forget having no dowry, your wit will be suffice enough." Nadia commented sarcastically.

Nadia couldn't help but smirk at the Professor's remark, Kolby would be getting what was coming to him. Though her Head of House was intimidating, it was nice seeing some Slytherin actions at work in the classroom.

Miriam turned to the girl to sat down next to her in surprise.

"Um, hi, Mitri, I'm Miriam," she said quietly to the Gryffindor next to her. Thinking about that long essay she had to write, she continued, "I did manage to finish the essay, though my hand was not very pleased about it." She blushed and ducked her head at the flippant tone she had inadvertently used. Her mother had taught her better than that.

Miriam hoped that what she had written would be good enough. She had managed four and a half feet, and hoped she wouldn't loose too many points for being short. She had thought about rewriting it a little larger to take up more space but never got around to it before it was due.

"At least I'm not a lumpish hag like you Nadia!"Marigold snapped back at her. Her hands instantly flew to her mouth and she turned redder than she already was. She was always taught to hold her tongue. But, she couldn't help it. She put her head down as more insults popped into her mind.

"You're a halfwit wench, you Bride of a Troll."Marigold thought. A small smile spread to her face. At least this shows that she had a little backbone. "And I hope your daddy forces you to marry an abusive man who might actually teach you to keep your big mouth shut."Then her conscious kicked in. Marigold Arabella Belet. You should be ashamed of yourself. Your parents taught you better than that. Marigold sighed but there was no way she was going to apologize. Even though, she may have accidentally picked a fight with an opponent she wasn't ready to face.

Almira rolled her eyes at the restlessness of her first-years, patience was a virtue in which none of them seemed to possess.

Trying to gather the class' attention Almira said, "Silence! Class had begun. Kolby Parry make your way to my desk so we may begin testing last lesson's potions."

"I will begin by casting a simple boils spell on Kolby, and no I will not tell anyone how to cast it correctly. If I find that anyone has attempted this spell without explicit permission from a teacher, they will be docked house points. That reminds me, 10 housepoints from Ravenclaw. You can all thank Marigold for that. Keep the petty fights out of my classroom for future reference Miss Belet. Let's begin with this potion, shall we?" Almira said showcasing Deidre's potion which was an odd shade of hunter green rather than the normal blue color of the attempted potion.

Casting the spell upon Kolby, Almira waited eagerly for the boy to drink the potion. If anything dreadful were to happen she had a bezoar on her person, but unless something did happen, no one needed to know.

Kolby rolled his eyes when he walked up to the front of the class. This is ridiculous and degrading. he thought when he stood by the professor. He crossed his arms and glared at his fellow classmates who seemed to be enjoying this a little too much. Aitken casted the boils spell on him and the torture began. Kolby could feel his face breaking out into all sorts of boils. Some swelled up to normal size and turned a nice pink color. Kolby crinkled his nose and his face turned a bit red. A curse on all your families!he thought, looking at the professor. He sighed when he realized that Aitken was going to make him suffer.

Oh no you don’t! he thought, snatching the cure from her hand.

He uncorked the vial. It reeked of poison and death. He looked at Deirdre. Did she poison me?he though swishing the liquid around. He gulped and plugged his nose. Then, he chugged the potion. He smashed the vial on the ground, shattering it to a million pieces. He wasn’t going to suffer this kind of humiliation. He turned to the professor. Suddenly, the boils swelled to a massive size and oozed pus and turned green. He glared at Deirdre. She didn’t get the potion right. He sighed and tried to control his temper. But, he didn't want to be here and he wasn't going to put up with border line abusive teachers and students that hated him today. Enough is enough.

”I will pay for the vial and accept any punishment. But, I will not put up with this humiliation. Have a good day.”he said. The boils got worse as he left the classroom, his stuff in hand. He headed to Headmistress’ office, hoping that she would help him with his problem. A single tear that no one will see fell down his cheek. He wiped it away. They will never know how much they truly hurt his feelings.

Miriam watched Kolby walk to the front of the class. He sure didn't seem happy about being selected. She shrank back a little from the glare he gave the class. She was well aware that she was far below many of the children of nobility that seemed to crowd her classes.

She was curious as to how the spell was performed that caused the boils to break out over Kolby's face, but it looked so painful and horrible that she rethought that and decided she never wanted to know how to cast that spell.

"How horrible," she muttered to herself, even if it seemed like Kolby was a very mean person, she didn't wish that on anyone.

The green color of the first cure caught her attention though, "Isn't it supposed to be blue?" she asked quietly, looking around. Her's had been a not-quite right shade of blue, but the green of that vial wasn't looking good.

Miriam jumped as Kolby smashed the vial and followed him with her gaze as he walked out of the room. He may be a Slytherin, But that was just mean, she thought to herself as the classroom door closed.

Rose sat next to a scrawny looking Gryffindor boy that she didn't know; she kept glancing over at the tables her friends were at, wishing she had gotten to class earlier. The boy wasn't very talkative, so it was basically up to Rose to talk the kid's ear off as usual.

"I can't believe she's actually going to use him," she whispered frantically to little Brandon.

She watched the disaster unfold almost in slow motion. Kolby sauntered up to the table next to Professor Aitken. As if his regular boils weren't disgusting enough, they grew and turned green and....Rose shivered. Couldn't Aitken get in trouble for this?

"Professor?" she raised her hand when the Slytherin stormed off. "Shouldn't someone accompany him and take him to the Hospital Wing or..something?"

Almira's eyes widened in shock as Kolby smashed the vial to the ground. She hadn't thought the boy to be so sensitive. Regret filled her and she wondered how she could get the boy to forgive her. It wasn't often she felt bad for her actions, but Kolby was different. He reminded Almira of herself when she was younger.

"Nadia, would you please go after him? Here's a bezoar to give him. He needs to have it shoved down his throat, as unbecoming as it sounds. And please ask him to see me before our next lesson." Almira said, sending the Slytherin girl on her way.

"Miss McCalahan, Hufflepuff will be deducted twenty points. That potion was not accidentally tampered with, it was a purposeful act. The recipe didn't call for dragon's blood at all! Also, you will write a formal apology to Mr. Parry. Do you understand? I will not stand for students undermining my authority. Also twenty five points to Slytherin, Mr. Parry could have refused but did not. That required more integrity than many of you have. Potions can be dangerous as we have all seen today. Now everyone turn to page 394 in your textbooks and read silently to yourselves. We will be starting this potion in a moment" Almira sighed in disappointment.

Hufflepuffs were supposed to be kind-hearted. These children didn't understand the power a Potion could have, she hoped they never would have to know the evil that one could contain. Maybe they would be more careful during today's brewing, she could only hope.
